Winning Trainer: Aaron Purcell

“That was Johnny’s plan before the race, sit one out and one back on a fairly slow tempo and bring him into the race in his own time and it worked out exactly how he imagined. Couldn’t have been any happier with that.

“I think we might have had this horse wrong. We bought him as a 2400 metre-plus horse but with the turn-of-foot that he’s got I think he’s going to be effective over even shorter distances as he gets older and stronger. He travels well and gives a little kick and makes a good racehorse out of him.”

What’s next: “There’s quite a few races coming up. Possibly look for a similar restricted 2000 metre race in Melbourne or a race like the Colac Cup. We’ll have a look at it but his rating will go up now so we’ll raise the bar a little bit.”

Winning Jockey: John Allen

“I think this track suits him, Caulfield. Just maybe the big straight at Flemington may not have suited him. Aaron (Purcell) has him going great and it was a good win again today.

“I had a great run, travelled really strongly . Probably doesn’t want to be in front that soon but we didn’t really have any other option but he responded plenty when I asked him.

“He’s quite progressive. I’m sure he’d be capable of some of those better country cups.”

On the track: “There’s enough give in it. Probably somewhere between a 4 and a 5.”
