“He was still good last time after being hemmed in at Caulfield. He’s the type of horse that is more comfortable at Flemington. The start before he was chasing home Mr Brightside who was a head away in the Cantala so that is great form for this horse but to come here and produce it under a bit more pressure.

“Hugh gave him plenty of room, the ride was a good one. We were tempted to perhaps go for stronger races but we were patient. Just getting his confidence back.

“His throat was immature so we gave him time.

Next: “We were talking about the Ballarat Cup or the Pakenham Cup. We’ve put a bit of thought into bringing him along and making the most of his low ratings.

“Twelve months ago we thought he was a Derby horse but he just wasn’t nature enough and his throat wasn’t quite there.

“We gave him a break and to see him win first-up after ten months off over a short distance, it was a pretty promising since. And now that he’s scored a win over the Flemington carnival in one of the lower tier races it would be nice if we’re back here in twelve months time running in something stronger.

Winning Jockey: Hugh Bowman

“It was a bit hard early in the week when I wasn’t here but great to be here for the last couple of days.

“We went into Oaks Day thinking we had a real chance in the main event. Came up with a placing which we were happy with but with some nice rides today it was good to kick off with a winner.

“He was a favourite so we expected a forward showing and he certainly delivered.

“I was pleased with it (the performance). I still think he’s got a bit of learning to do. I feel like when he cruised to the front, which he did within himself, he was inclined to have a bit of a look around.

“It wasn’t until he got a bit of company on his outside that he knuckled down. I think he’s got a bit more to offer and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him figure here in twelve months time over a little bit further maybe.”
