Leading: “It was a decisive move. He left the gates well and mustered even better. Nobody in the inside looked like they’d take it up so it was good that Damien was able to get to the rail and get the horse into a beautiful rhythm.”

Last win 2018 Cantala: “He’s been running terrific. He ran a bottler last start giving six kilos away in the Summer Cup and we came here today with a fit horse and he’s obliged really well.

“There’s plenty left in him. He’s a Group 1 winner over a mile, won a group race over a mile today and there might be something in a couple of weeks for him as well.”

Options including Australian Cup: “Or you could run in the Blamey (and win) and that would make you exempt for the All-Star Mile.”

“(Leading) was one of the thoughts. I did speak to James this morning and said though we wanted to ride him forward there may not be a spot for him to get in so I asked for the option to take it up if it came to that. James said, ‘well you’re on him, you know what you’re doing’. So that’s what we did.

“He got into a good rhythm and coming to the turn he was going to take some running down.

“He’s a lovely horse to ride. It’s the first time I have sat on him but really well placed by James and the Godolphin team here. It’s a pleasure to ride for them when they bring these sorts of horses down for these types of races. We know he hasn’t won for a while but he’s a lovely horse to ride today.

In the run: “I could feel Over Exposure creeping up on me and it just got my horse travelling a little better and it got my horse working into the middle of the race. It was a little sooner than I wanted to go but I knew I’d had it pretty easy and he had something to give. When he gave a good kick on the bend I thought he was going to take some running down.”
