Winning Trainer: Anthony and Sam Freedman (Sam interviewed)

“He was really good today. Big thanks to all the staff at Pinecliff. He is a headache to work with every morning but that’s ok when he can come here and win.

“We wanted to be a touch closer and she broke so cleanly and in the perfect spot. We would have stuck with Lachie Neindorf, he does a lot of work on him, but he’s under suspension but he’s really a part of the team and we’re just very happy to get the result.

Tennis stars in ownership (Lleyton Hewitt & Sam Groth): “Lleyton is up in the stands, I think you could hear a big ‘come on’, so they’re all very happy. Just hoping the horse can go on with it now.”

Future: “We put him away and we really wanted to have him for these firmer tracks over the summer and spacing his runs seems to suit. Keeping at the 12, 13 or 1400 metres, so we’ll have a good look and see what is around in the next few weeks.”

Winning Jockey: Jamie Kah

“I was confident but he doesn’t have a big sprint on him, this horse, so I was trying to hold him together as long as I could.

“He’s a big, strong animal and when he puts it together, and he keeps his mind on the job, he’s a good horse.

“I was confident on the turn but I knew there’d be horses swooping late. Luckily he held on.”

Craig Williams on third-placed favourite Housay: “He’s a really nice horse. He’s had two unlucky runs. In a slowly run race he just got a bit fresh and with a few weeks between runs he raced in amongst them. Happy to slide on the back of the eventual winner but I just didn’t get clear running from then on.

“I tested a couple of waters (gaps) but they just didn’t open up for me. As it turned out he got out at the 60 metre mark and ate the line. He’s a really good horse in the making. Unfortunately I haven’t had luck on him in the last two starts.”
