Winning Trainer: Lindsey Smith (stable representative Shane Jackson speaking)

More than a consolation prize after losing at Warrnambool: “He was very unlucky not to win last start here I thought. He had to weave a very tight passage through and he was hitting the line strong. Lindsey (Smith, trainer) has figured this horse out, we keep him really fresh at home. He just has an explosive turn of foot, so we just ride him quiet, let him suck into it and Brett (Prebble) rode him a treat today.”

Looks like he enjoys the firmer going: “He handles the heavy tracks. I think early days when we were thinking he was unlucky, when he was getting caught for runs, it was probably the way he needed to be ridden. He looked impressive and an unlucky horse beat. We’ve gone back to that, just ride him cold. In fairness, Declan Bates couldn’t ride him today. He’s ridden him and said that was the way to ride him as well, he said ‘let him suck into it and keep him full of running and then he has that real dominant turn of foot’.”

Thought on Stripped Back?: “I thought he was really good. He’s still a bit green and he got bumped and jostled a bit turning in and in the straight. He didn’t get much clear running. You draw a good gate, but sometimes it’s not always the best thing. He’s a lovely horse going forward and there’s plenty of upside to him.”

Winning Jockey: Brett Prebble

Teaming up well with Lindsey Smith: “It’s well-publicised Lindsey is a brilliant trainer and as I’ve stated before he’s very enjoyable to work with, so I’m having a lot of fun.”

On Sacred Palace: “I think the horse needed the penny to drop. He probably should have been coming here aiming for three straight. He’s on an upward climb and I obviously got the benefit today. Dec (Bates) got suspended and I picked up the crumbs. Dec will probably be back on and I’m sure he’s going to repay him. He’s a horse on the way up. He’s a really enjoyable ride, he travels strong and give you a lovely kick when you want it.”

Riding in good form: “I’m enjoying my work again which makes the job a lot easier. Winners are grinners I suppose, but there is a lot of hard work behind it. I’m enjoying, which is the main thing.”
