Winning Trainer: Richard & Chantelle Jolly (Richard speaking)

Keeps getting better with age: “He certainly is.”

“It’s just amazing we found the key to him, putting him back in these 1000m races. Today I thought watching it, I was a bit worried in the run. I thought ‘he’s not going to get there, he’s struggling in the going’ and that last furlong, as soon as Craig (Williams) gave him a couple he just lifted. He just gets the job done.”

Good in the conditions: “He obviously handled it, but when they’re back last on a Heavy 10 it’s hard to make ground.”

“He’s just an old marvel. The stable loves the horse, he’s been terrific for the owners and at the age of seven, you don’t expect them to put together three in-a-row like that and win good races.”

11 wins and half a million in earnings: “We’re going to have to change tack with him, we normally spell him over summer.”

“Obviously he’s going to have a break shortly, but he’s going to come back a 100-rater now, which I never thought when he walked into the stable he’d achieve that. It’s a real milestone for the horse and we’ll have to obviously look at the better races here in our carnival, or back to Melbourne.

“He might only have a short break over summer this year.”

Winning Jockey: Craig Williams

“I knew from his run style - I spoke to Richard in partnership with Chantelle, the trainers, and his instructions were ‘don’t get there at the furlong, he’ll wait for them’.

“I thought I don’t think I’ll have that as a problem today. He’s such an intelligent horse and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

“Most importantly his winning performance. He wanted to win and it’s great for me in front of my home crowd and to have a winner on the day.”

Visors: “I pulled one down and I then offset another one so I was trying to look between two lenses at one stage but I was lucky enough to travel. I’ve got really good gear now so credit to the track curators for dealing with mother nature having it in a good, safe order for a heavy track and hence why our meeting can continue.”
