Winning Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott (Alva Prendergast interviewed)

On Invincible Jet coming to Melbourne: “Gai (Waterhouse) and Adrian (Bott) sent him down here about six weeks ago thinking that he seemed to always go better the Melbourne way. The thoughts have paid off and he’s repaid them today, he’s won quite nicely.”

Thoughts pre-race and in run: “We thought there would be a bit of speed in it so Gai just said to jump him out wherever he was comfortable. Credit to Damien (Oliver), he gave him a lovely ride. It was a bit sticky there halfway up the straight whether he was going to get out or not but when he did, he knuckled down and he did the job well.”

Thoughts on Invincible Jet as a horse: “He is a nice horse so onwards and upwards hopefully.”

On saddling up two runners for as many winners at Sandown today: “Job done thankfully, I’ll go home now a happy girl.”

Winning Jockey: Damien Oliver

First time on board: “I’ve been trialling him. He’s been trialling well and we expected a forward showing from him today. There looked as though there could be a bit of pace on paper and there was. I was happy to lead or take a trail. He hasn’t really been in behind them before so it was good to see that he could do that as well.”

Couple of hairy moments in straight: “He’s been leading up in his trials, having too much speed for them, but there was a bit more speed today and he was able to tuck into a trail. When he got clear, he quickened up nicely and was going to take a bit of catching, but he had to dig in when one came at him, but he fought it off well.”

Bit more distance: “He’s an I Am Invincible and I don’t think they get too far, probably 1400 (metres) sees them out and he’s probably similar. I think 12-1400 would be far enough.”

On the surfing at the Olympics: “I like watching the surfing when the surf’s good, but the surf wasn’t that great. I have really enjoyed watching the Aussies do so well. It’s been great to see.”
