“Last start we went from maiden grade to a benchmark 70 because I’ve always liked this horse. She shows, to me, that she’s got the ability. I thought she was extremely well placed today albeit these $125,000 aren’t easy to win and other horses in this race have got more experience.

“She’s a mare that I said last start would progress to better races and it’s more her mannerisms, I think. She’s extremely professional and puts her in good stead.

Exciting to have a horse with such consistent speed: “Everyone would be aware that my horses generally are backmarkers so she’s a little bit different.”

What’s next: “See what’s on offer. She may go out for a break now but I’ll have a meeting with John (Williams) and the Albanian community - we’ll go out and have some Albanian food - and take it from there.”

Winning Jockey: Craig Newitt

“She’s very fast. I was a little hesitant here today from a wide gate as it didn’t look like there’d be a lot of speed in the race, but she crossed hard on the bridle, straightened up and I still had a lapful (to spare).

“When I went through her gears she still had her ears pricked and I was holding onto her a little bit longer. She’s pretty exciting.

“It’s a really good track here for speed horses and I drew wide, happy to just stay in the middle of the track down the side so I wasn’t in a race with anyone vying for the lead and when I decided to come down she was already well and truly clear of them.

“She just idled along and then she quickened up really good.”

** FLEMINGTON yesterday - Phillip Stokes on Standish third-placed Defiant Dancer: “Happy enough with the run. If he pulls up well, I’ll see what happens with the ratings and I might just run in another benchmark 84 race down the straight in a fortnight. The maybe a little break and aim towards the Adelaide carnival.

“He had no issues down the straight. It was a harder race and it was sort of a trial. He tried hard and that’s about where he’s at at the moment.”

** SALE tomorrow - Mathew de Kock keen on Imagine Howe in Race 4: “He was really good at his last start. He had a little rest because he wasn’t settling in his work so we just went back to square one, changed some equipment on him and he settled last time out. He ran a good fourth and I think he’ll go well.

Northern Reign in Race 2: “She was disappointing debuting at Caulfield but she’s showing a lot of speed at home so I expect her to go better in this.”
