A long time coming: “At the top of the straight I was quite confident that she was going to keep coming but then there was a moment at the 200 (metre mark) where that gap seemed to be getting bigger and bigger and we weren’t making much ground.

“I guess the horses in front went hard enough and it is very steep at Sandown, a tough finish. She just kept on coming, she’s very tough and was too good.

“Actually delighted. There’s a few owners here who, after COVID, have all been locked up and, thank God, they’re back out and a big thanks to everyone at the stable. This horse has been a long project. She’s been off the track for a while. Always had big faith in her and thank God she could bounce back today.

The future: “We thought something like an Adelaide Cup and when you look at how strong she was over 2400 metres, I think she’ll get further. We’ve always thought she’s a really nice stayer and when she started to get a sequence a couple of preps ago she looked like anything could be in reach for her.

“Jordie (Childs) gave her a nice, sensible ride and got into a good rhythm. So the Adelaide Cup would be an option but we’ll see how she is and go from there.”

Winning Jockey: Jordan Childs

“Archie has been a big part of my career and we both help each other. I’ve been riding winners for him for a long time, especially on this horse. In previous preps I’ve won quite a few races on her so it’s good to see her back on track and good to see her in the winner’s stall.”

On the run: “I thought they ran along at a genuine tempo and then they even added a bit more pressure along the back. I just wanted to let her build through her gears. I was always confident I was going to get there. I just know that she gets stronger and stronger as the race goes on. She just kept building through her gears and was too strong in the end.”

Adelaide Cup prospect: “Obviously it’s a step up in class but she deserves her chance. She’s back racing well and on today’s performance she’ll definitely get a bit further as well.”

Childs rides Dosh in Blue Diamond Preview (fillies) on Tuesday:  “I rode her in a trial the other day and I galloped her yesterday on the course proper at Caulfield. She’s going very well. She’s very sharp and within herself. She’s a genuine natural athlete - jumps, runs, puts herself there. She should be right there in the finish, for sure.”
