Into the Melbourne Cup: “He’s the right horse. He’s a proper two-miler. I was rapt when they went a decent tempo the whole way today.
“This is a race we set him for and to get the job done, well half-done, if pretty satisfying.
“The team have done a really good job with this horse. He’s been up all year. We gave him a freshen and Johnny Allen, it was probably a ten-out-of-ten ride. I was giving him a bake last night but he’s just a phenomenal jockey, he’s in good form and I’m rapt that he won that one.”
Compared to Persan last year: “Very similar. They’ve been in work most of this season and just been spacing their runs with a freshen-up here and there when we decided to target this race. It’s great when a plan goes off so onwards and upwards to the next one.”

“He’s been a good horse to me. He’s such an honest horse, always gives his all and the race couldn’t have panned out any better for us today.
“He was going well and there was nice pressure on to the first bend. Brett (Prebble on Pondus) looked as if he was intent on leading and once I was happy that he was going to roll along at a good tempo, I was happy to sit in behind.
“He travelled well and I was able to pop up outside them in the straight. Probably was in front (early), as you know it is a long straight and it took a long time, but we weren’t going that quick up the straight and I couldn’t hear anything coming so it was a good feeling for the last 50 yards.”
51 kilos in the Cup: “I think it is a bit light for me but he’ll be a good ride for someone.”
