Margins: 5½L x Long Head

Winning Trainer: Gavin Bedggood

First city training double: “It’s right up there with winning a Grand Annual. To train on city winner on a Saturday is one thing, but to get two, especially with these two horses. They live together, they sleep side-by-side together, they go to the track every morning. They do everything together.”

“I knew he’d be a red hot chance with 51.5 kilos on a heavy track but I was umming and ahhing about running today or going to the benchmark 70 here on Wednesday, only because there looked to be really good pressure in this race today and he’s best when he finds the front and is able to get a couple of cheap sections and then skip away.

“I knew that wasn’t going to happen here with a full field and a great ride by Carleen again.

“This horse, I had to go and buy him with money I didn’t have. I actually got left with half of him when I sold him. I couldn’t find owners for him and that’s his second win in town since we’ve had him and I think that’s his fourth win since we’ve had him over 18 months.

“When he gets conditions to suit with no weight, he’s a big threat.”

Winning Jockey: Carleen Hefel

“I just had to ignore the leader on the inside and do our own race. He was too strong again.

“I haven’t done any work for Gavin so I really appreciate the rides he’s given me today. Especially that they both went so well. I know Gavin puts a lot of effort into his horses and they always look so well. There’s a lot of hard work behind the scenes.”

** John Sadler on Sartorial Splendour at Flemington next Saturday **

“He’s won down the Flemington straight once but he also raced there in the Coolmore.

“The horse is good. All he needs is a dry track. The failure in the Coolmore was because a) he wasn’t good enough, and b) the wet track. I would say that the way he won the other day that the straight definitely suits him. No doubt.”
