Winning Trainer: Nick Ryan

Enjoyed the early tempo: “He just had a nice track gallop last Saturday. He had a great week, he was down the beach three or four times and we were really confident that he’d run well, we just needed the race run to suit. It was pretty similar to last year. He won this race last year very similarly. He’s just a great, old horse.”

Pathway: “We’ll take him home and let him tell us. He’s deep into his prep. He’s been to Queensland and back. Nothing would surprise you with this horse. Today was his 50th start, his 12th win. It’s been a pretty good ride for the owners, myself, the staff. He’s a marvel.”

Winning Jockey: Fred Kersley

Great to get job done: “It was very good thinking and a smart play by Nick. This horse won this race last year and with 4-½ kilos difference in the weights between today and then, it was a much better race. They flew along early which allowed us to track into the race.

Wind impact: “It was my only ride today and it was my first time out there. My only instruction was not to go to the rail and I did go to the rail. The wind hit in the face along the side around the 1200 (metres), but when I got off and it was time to move on there was no issue with that tail wind.”
