Winning Trainer: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr (Mick Price speaking)

“He (Allen) made his own decision, didn’t he. He was waiting for the inside horse to come but it didn’t come. Taken to the front with the ears pricked, nearly 12-second sectionals.

“I thought it was this little party going on out there for Johnny Allen so it was good. I know it was only benchmark 90 mares but still good and vindicates not running her from a bad gate (last time) but running her in the right race.

Competitive benchmark race: “It’s that time of year, isn’t it. She’s a good mare. She is a good mare and I’ll probably bite the bullet in one of those mile races and if she has to go to the front, she has to go to the front.

“She’s got that cranky bit about her where you don’t want to have to wrestle with her. One day she might learn.”

Winning Jockey: John Allen

“She put up a good performance first-up this prep and on form she was probably entitled to run really well in that race today and it proved that way.

“She’s a mare that can be quite aggressive. She can overdo things a little bit. She began well.

“I anticipated that there might be a bit more speed back to her inside but I kicked up and we had the lead. I wouldn’t have been able to go much slower on her but she got into a pretty good rhythm.

“The runner-up got pretty close to us but in the finish I felt that she was fighting her off quite well.”

The wind: “I think the wind has died down a little bit. It’s not as noticeable out there as it was before the first race when it was a bit stronger. That drop of rain didn’t have too much impact on the track.“
