Winning Trainer: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace (Ciaron speaking)

“Really progressive horse. Very horse. Have a look at his form, I think he won over 1400 (metres) leading.

“I just think last start they only went a muddling tempo and it didn’t play to his strengths but he was good enough to get away with it.

“I said to Damian today just to let him roll along and don’t make it a sit and sprint - so pick it up early.

“It looked like the other horse (Lunar Flare) when it came to him just had the momentum but he really dug in when it got up alongside him.

“The team have done a really good job. Great to get a winner for Gerry Ryan. There’s a heap of his mates from Tooradin that are in there and I think that’s one of their first horses so they’ve had a great time with him.

“You never know. Now we’ll look at raising the bar and whether is a Bart Cummings or something like that we’ll see if we can sneak into a Cup.”

Metropolitan nominated: “All races are on the table from him. He generally likes his runs spaced a little. He did back up after two weeks this time but his demeanour was a bit more casual so I think he does enjoy that extra week. We’ll see how he pulls up and then have a plan.”

Winning Jockey: Damian Lane

“Very fortunate to get the ride today. Thank you to Gerry, Ciaron and all the other connections.

“He was a gem to ride. He jumped and travelled so sweetly the whole way and gave me a good kick when it counted.

Group race staying potential: “He’s got all the qualities. The Maher-Eustace stable are so good at it and he’s got the right attitude. He’s relaxed and quickens up when you need him. He’s got all the right qualities and hopefully he can go on with it.”
