Winning Trainer: Tony & Calvin McEvoy (Calvin interviewed)

“That was fantastic. I must thank the owners. She’s been a really good filly and now mare. Had to have a little bit of surgery on a fetlock and she’s come back in great order.

“She just travelled over from the Adelaide stable a few days ago and settled into Ballarat very well. The ‘old man’ was very confident and he got it right.

“She’s fantastic now. She ran second in the SA Fillies Classic over 2500 metres so I think she’ll continue to get better and we’ll just target some more black type for mares over the autumn.”

Did they think she was a genuine chance today: “I must say that Dad was very confident and she trialled up well around Behemoth so her work has been good and she’s always been a filly or a mare that’s done well in her gallops and (when) fresh she performs.”

Winning Jockey: Luke Currie

“She was good. Obviously first-up coming off a staying prep, she was nice and fresh. I had to bring her back. I didn’t want her racing into the box seat and the wheels spinning and being too close. I really had to work on her to get her to settle to come back another pair.

“She towed be around the corner it was just a matter of her finding a bit of room.

“The way she was going she was always going to show a turn-of-foot for 50 yards then run out because she was first-up. She’s done plenty of work and I’m sure in Adelaide and now Ballarat with the new stable, the horses seem to be going well and thriving there. I think it has worked well for her today.”

Currie intends on riding more work there in Ballarat: “Of course. They have been very good to me over the years and I won’t be not putting the hard yards in. (Depths of) Winter might be my holiday time though.”
