Winning Trainer: Matt Cumani

“I think with with him the only way he’s going to win on these days is by weaving his way through the field. He’s always very slow into stride, and he’s a small, strong horse who has a very long action so it takes him a time to get into it so he’s always out the back.

“He has to go wide around the field or you just have to hope for a bit of luck. Today, Lachie rode him beautifully and found all the gaps at just the right time. It worked out beautifully for him. We’re delighted to get a big win like this for this horse because he’s a tough little horse and he’s been knocking on the door.

On Lachie King: “He beat us in the Derby, so we didn’t have him on the right horse then. He’s a guy we’ve used a bit in the past. Haven’t recently but he was perfect for it today. Great to see him get a win for us.”

Winning Jockey: Lachie King

“I just rode him pretty confidently, to be honest. I saw Laundy out in front so I knew that there’d be a passage there as I got into the straight. Playoffs was going with it. The two form horses were up front so I knew I just had to bide my time.

“I couldn’t believe how good I was travelling. I was confident I’d run to the post pretty quick.”

Does he prefer longer races as a rider: “I think the fact that it’s a Flemington, you get more time to make decisions. Riding for people like Matt who understands from the jockeys point-of-view how a race unfolds. There was no pressure at all. Seeing how the race unfolds, went to ‘Plan B’, rode for a bit of luck and he was too good.”
