“He was a short price last start but did quite well. He made three lengths up which is not easy to do on the synthetic. The blinkers have made a difference. Jarrod Lorensini said to put them on. He was a little bit keen for the first 100 metres, I suppose, but he got in behind horses and got a beautiful ride from Ben. He was strong to the line.

<Said the horse’s nickname is ‘Big Cal’. Nothing to do with Calvin McEvoy, but because he is by Calvinia>

“There’s a really nice program for these stayers through winter. Persan and High Emocean went through it last year and hopefully he can do that. He’s not a strong horse yet. I was a little bit surprised that he was able to round if off the way he did, which bodes well. Hopefully we can keep (going).

“He’s not a horse to put into a sexy race just yet. We can just tip through the winter and he can keep progressing.”

Winning Jockey: Ben Allen

“I thought he was tough. I was a bit worried for the first two furlongs, he was a bit fierce and it took me a bit to get him to settle. Then he travelled good. I was surprised how he picked up coming into the straight. He really picked up underneath me and won quite nicely.”

Blinkers made a difference: “I think so. He’s still learning, only lightly raced but going up in grade he did well.”
