Winning Trainer: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace (Dave speaking)

“He was obviously impressive. A little bit keen early, he just wanted to get on with things. That’s probably a little bit of freshness. He worked quite fresh during the weeks and he’s probably at a stage where two weeks between runs really suits him.

“There’s a lovely program for him here, if he stays here, or elsewhere. He’s clearly a stayer, he’s hit his straps. Ciaron was keen to give him a break midway through the spring because he didn’t feel that he was going quite so well so we gave him that nice break so he’s probably going to roll into the spring now. He’s up and going and does take a bit of time to hit his straps.

“It’s great for Gerry (Ryan). He puts a lot into the game and likes having a stayer. There’s more to come.”

Other options: “The Stayers Cup in Sydney but it is a benchmark 90 and we’d have to claim. Probably lumping a load of weight over two miles on soft ground, and the Brisbane Cup is next weekend which he’ll be put in and you’ve got the likes of the Caloundra Cup and the Ipswich Cup there.

“He’s in such a good rhythm, I’d say he’ll stay here. There’s an open handicap in two weeks and then a 2600 metre (event) and then (one over) 2800 metres. At some stage we’ll change it up a bit for the spring.”

Winning Jockey: Jamie Kah

“It was a good way to start the day. He was beautiful, he gave me a lovely ride. Haky tried to put some pressure on us - at the 1000 (metre mark) I could feel him (there). My horse was just toying with him, he had so much left.

“It was like he was waiting for them to put pressure on him because he had a lapful of horse underneath him.”

Freshness: “He was a bit early. I just didn’t want Haky to whip around us and us be on the rails. I just stayed off a little bit longer than I would have liked to. Once he crossed he dropped the bridle and he’s probably a better horse in front, nothing around him. Once he got there he settled lovely.”
