Brother to O’Tauto: “Neville Murdoch from Larneuk Stud had the mare, unfortunately she’s not with us anymore, but everything she did have can run, and this guy has been no exception. He’s a little bit more precocious than what O’Tauto was, but at this stage he’s doing everything right and it was the right time to bring him to the races. ”

What impressed you most?: “Probably his ability to hang on and tough it out. I said to Damian (Lane) ‘the more you ask the more he’ll keep giving’, that’s the style of horse he’s shown us all the way through.

“I think the 1000m is not necessarily his go, but he’s a good, tough competitor and he got away with it. I have no doubt probably 1200m, 1400m, a bit further on later in his career would be a more suitable trip for him. ”

Summer program: “We’ll have to have a good look at it now, I think if he holds up alright. He’s been very good in the stable, he’s a tremendous doer. Hopefully there’s a bit more left in the tank and he’s heading in the right direction.”

Winning Jockey: Damian Lane

“Really well prepared for today. The horse stepped a little bit awkwardly but travelled up nicely mid-race.

“Still very green, a very raw horse but he was obviously very fit and ready to go. He’d got through the conditions and hit the line well.”

The track: “It’s pretty testing out there. I dare say if it keeps raining the footholes are going to fill up with water and I’d say, being the ultimate pessimist, I think we’ll struggle.”
