Winning Trainer: Chris Waller (Jo Taylor interviewed)

“I think Chris had a look at all the options and for where the best ground was for him and the decision was made to come here and have a throw at the stumps and he seemed to handle it really well.

“The instructions today were to make sure that he settled. They said that he could get a little bit keen in Sydney so Michael was told to find a good rhythm and even though it was a slow tempo early I think he did a good job of that. His class pulled him through when they had to get rolling.”

Winning Jockey: Michael Walker

The wind: “It is pretty strong. I think you’re going to need cover wherever you are on the track. Going around to the start I got a gust of wind that nearly threw me off the horse. That’s how strong it is.”

On the run: “I had a good run today. The team has done a good job. As Jo was saying, Chris puts all his options on the plate and picked the best one today. I’ll tell you one thing that made the effort even better, he had his tongue over the bit so the addition of a tongue tie might help.

“I think the further he goes the better and on a quicker tempo. They were just going too slow and I was very fortunate that he did come back to me. Sometimes with their tongue over the bit those horses get a bit funny, but he went good.”
