Winning Trainer: Lloyd Kennewell (rep by Gary Kennewell)

Lloyd on the Gold Coast: “He’ll be absolutely rapt. He had a lot more confidence than I did. He’s not a big horse by any means but obviously very quick.

Why Gary lacked confidence: “I think he’s just got a bit of a washy coat to look at, but that’s just home. It’s funny how little things like that can put you off a little bit. But Lloyd was pretty happy with him going into it.

“Joe Bowditch who has been riding most of the work, he’s gone to the Gold Coast too. otherwise he’d be riding him. Froggy (Newitt) did a really good job. He pinged the barriers. The horse that led is by the same stallion, Extreme Choice. He followed him to the 400 (metre mark) and he never looked like getting beaten, really.

Bought at Magic Millions Perth for $70,000: “We did like him at the sales there. I remember it well.”

Lloyd’s plans at the Gold Coast Sales: “He’d have fifty booked but that’ll shrink down to about four or five.”

Winning Jockey: Craig Newitt

Does he share any traits with Extreme Choice: “He’s definitely inherited his size. He’s not real big. He’s got a big ticker.

“It’s been a long, long time since I’ve ridden a two-year-old (that is) so professional. He cantered down to the gates like he’s been here a hundred times.

“He didn’t break out in a sweat even before he walked into the gates. He just travelled so professionally the whole way and was going to win a long way out.”

Future: “It’s a pretty hot day so I think he’s going to know he’s had a run, but he just took everything in his stride, so professional, so I’m tipping that he’s got a pretty bright future ahead of him.”

On the track: “Track is beautiful. It raced really well. We were wide out on the track there but if the inside is anything like the outside then it is perfect.”
