“That is a huge thrill for me. My sons, Jordan and Lachlan are in the horse, it’s the second horse they’ve owned, and Josh Xipell, a champion fella who is not in the best of health at the moment but has been with me since I started and had that horse Field Master. They’re his colours and Jack Clapham who sent her over from New Zealand. They’re a fantastic group of people who are in the horse and that makes it so special. Everyone is high-fiving each other.”

Thoughts during run: “She’s tiny, really skinny little thing and there were no huge expectations, but she is tough and can stay. Dean Yendall rode her great. On the corner I thought she was half-a-chance, half-way down the straight I wasn’t sure and even right on the line I wasn’t sure, but anyway she got the job done.”

Winning Jockey: Dean Yendall

Running of the race: “It was the worst run I ever would’ve imagined for a 2400m race, they just walked. Even at the half mile they got slower again. Thornton sort of rolled into it a little bit, went to the three-wide which is what I followed, then I followed Brett (Prebble) with the four-wide line. She travelled lovely the whole way throughout, she settled well, she just did everything right. Had the right run for that sort of run race, I was able to bring her to the outside and ask for effort and she got the job done obviously. Coming off a Maiden win and her last run wasn’t bad at all, so i had pretty high hopes of everything going right and obviously she was right today and much appreciated to young Patty (Payne) for giving me a steer again.”

Riding instructions: “Patty’s pretty easy-going giving instructions, ‘ride them as you feel’, pretty much how i like to ride them anyway. Obviously she had been back in her races not able to hold a spot anyways so she’s happy to be where she is, comfortable at the back. The one later he’s left it up to me as well, she’s led before and she’s drawn barrier one so I dare say you’ll see a similar effort.”
