Winning Trainer: Nick Ryan

“He’s an emerging young horse and that was a good tough win running down a good horse like that today. We might put him away now and look for something like the Rupert Clarke in the spring. We’ll see how he pulls up but couldn’t be happier.

“He was exposed a bit early and had to push out and do the hard work to run it down. I was hoping that we could snipe for a little bit longer but he did it the hard way and ran it down. Luke rode him a treat and I’m just happy for the horse and the owners. It’s been a marvellous three or four weeks for them.

“We’ll put him away and set a program out. He’s getting up in the ratings now which will give us options aplenty getting into better races but I knew he was going to go through his grades with the feel he gave me and he’s done that.”

Mahamadeis: “The old boy went super and I couldn’t be happier first-up. Worked to the line beautifully and looking forward to getting him up to the Albury Cup.”

Winning Jockey: Luke Currie

“It was a really good effort. He wasn’t quick away and I hate trying to press from a slow start so I took my medicine and went that third pair back. I was so far away from them I was pulling my hair out at the half mile. I knew he was going to have to come out and make the ground himself and it was a massive effort for him to do that.”

Good for Nick Ryan: “This is a better horse and it has came to him as a troubled horse and he’s got it going well. You see even the ones that he takes to the bush, the ones that haven't got that talent they all present well and he’s a top trainer.”

Rupert Clarke ideal: “He’s learnt his trade and you see today he did everything I asked of him, he did everything right. That’s why he’s stepped him through his grades and got him to where he is now. I’m sure there’s better things in store for him.”

Mike Moroney on runner-up Buffalo River: “He’ll take a bit of fitness from that. Just got tired the last hundred metres, really. Went really well though. We’ll head to the Blamey.”

** DOUBT ON OLE KIRK STARTING AT CAULFIELD NEXT SATURDAY WITH COVID LOCKDOWN UNCERTAINTY **

Wayne Hawkes: “Everything changes. Right now with COVID everything is a day-to-day proposition. Just have to look at it day-to-day. I wouldn’t be pre-betting with any good horse now because no one knows whether they’re going to come or not.

Asked if he’d prefer Ole Kirk to run in Sydney or Melbourne: “My preference is for COVID to go away and our Premier to stop doing what he’s doing and let’s just get on with life. I’d prefer him to come to Melbourne.

“There is genuine doubt over decision making with these horses. No one knows what’s going to happen here (in Melbourne).”

** MAT ELLERTON ON GENERAL BEAU GOING TO BLUE DIAMOND - LATE ENTRY FEE WILL BE PAID ON MONDAY **

Asked if it was hard to convince ownership to pay: “Not really. It’s probably logical. The horse is in one piece and he looks enormous. Pulled up well from the run so we’ll get a ticket in the lottery.

General Beau compared to Enthaar: “Well the market tells you that there is probably only one thing that can beat her and that’s probably herself. We’ll take our place and hopefully we can have every chance.”
