“It was fantastic. Another beautiful ride there from Damian Lane. Had to be a bit patient there for a while. The writing has been on the wall with this horse and today, third-up to the mile, he’s been training so well. The lead in to this race was very good and the team at Flemington here have done a tremendous job with him.

“He’s a stakes winner. We’re going to try and target him at the Blamey (and) if that means (needs) a run in the Carlyon Stakes first, he’s up to that level. He’s come through all his niggling injuries and those things that have happened to him earlier in his career. He’s a lovely sound horse now and I think we’re going to be rewarded.”

Winning Jockey: Damian Lane

“It unfolded well early. I was able to stack up into a nice spot without using any petrol. I just had a little look around on the corner and assessing whether the gap was open or whether I had to come back around. Fortunately it did and he was too good.

“Very impressed by him. He was good at Pakenham first-up. He went in a bit fresh and (it was) a bit sharp for him. Second-up here, I was lucky I picked up the ride from Luke Currie and only a little bit of pilot error got him beaten that day.

“I was very happy to retain the ride. I’m very grateful to Tony and Calvin McEvoy, and the connections. He was too good today.”
