Winning Trainer: Lindsey Smith

“She had a bit of a tough run. I was a bit worried but once she go balanced up she looked good. She looked the winner at the top of the straight. Oli is a good tactician and he got the break on that horse and he found the line well.

“When she won at Ballarat, Ethan Brown was quite bullish about this horse so we gave her a few weeks off. She handles the wet so we’ve got this winter to go through and she can have a rest through springtime.

The track: “I think it's the best Heavy 9 you’ll come across. It’s not too bad. The guys have done a wonderful job. I thought it’d be a flog all the way. Slog, sorry. A flog is what I am.”

On the colours: “They’re Wellsy’s (C Wells). He’s of gypsy descent. His great-grandmother was queen of the gypsies. He’s well-bred.”

Winning Jockey: Damien Oliver

“It wasn’t pretty but she was too good for them. She’s a nice mare and handled the ground well. A big strong mare and I think she’s in for a good preparation.

“Early I was hoping to be handy but a few kicked up underneath me. They came back and I caught up so I was a bit wide. I waited with a bit of cover and nursed her a bit but when I asked her she responded really well.”

On the track: “It’s not too bad. For the rain they’ve had and the track has been looked after today. I’ve certainly ridden on much softer tracks here.”
