“It was a fantastic win. Everything we said pre-race went out the window when he jumped. We didn’t have a really good run in transit - we were posted three-wide, but it was great the Maddie didn’t panic and he’s a very progressive horse.

“He looked fantastic tonight. His skin is fantastic and I know it is a bit cold in Ballarat but the team have produced him in great order.

“That’ll tickle Tony pink because they do call Tony “Tony Nicconi” and we’ve got a few Nicconi’s to syndicate.”

Winning for McEvoy stable: “They really support me and to get a sit on Jucconi again, and last start we wanted to ride him a bit quieter and was unlucky to get caught up in a bad spot but it was unlucky that I didn’t get out soon enough.

“Today, he was just too strong.”

The run: “He jumped really well and I thought I would be able able to site outside the leader but then the kicked up inside him. I just let him settle into a nice rhythm.

“I ended up three-deep and ended up with a little bit of cover down the side straight and I just had to get off the back of them (as) I was going too good.

“I went around them, probably went too early, but he was too good.”
