“I didn’t mind where he was (in the run). He’s a big striding horse and I think it just gave him an opportunity to find his stride.

“He had plenty of galloping room and it’s not easy at only your second start to come to Moonee Valley and perform like that but the win was reminiscent of the 1966 Grand Final, right at the end there. Just getting up, that’s all you need.

“It gave him a chance to build up and find that stride. He’ll improve from that. It’ll be interesting what Mick (Dee) says about it but I’ll have to put a nom in for the (Australian) Guineas after that.”

Winning Jockey: Michael Dee

“He’s improved a hell of a lot (since September). Prior to coming here today he’s a more relaxed horse, he’s taken everything in his stride and he’s matured.

“He has strengthened up and he still won that race on raw ability.

“They did go steady and when everyone sorted their positions had some nice cover but I wa a little bit concerned that they’d gone steady and the might have been able to kick.

“I just let him stride. He covered more ground than was probably ideal but I always felt like I have them covered a long way from home.”

Can he win a Guineas: “I think so. It was a pretty smart race and for him to do that at only his second start, the feel that he gave me today was very good and he’s still got plenty of improvement to come.”
