Winning Trainer: Mathew Ellerton

Retired and come back: “She went to stud but failed to get into foal and has made her way back to the racetrack and fortunately she’s shown she’s got a bit of zest for it.”

Has she returned a better horse: “I do think she has. It looked a particularly strong (benchmark) 78 today. She looked to map well behind the speed and that’s the way its turned out. Mick gave her a great ride. He followed that speed and she was too strong in the end.”

VOBIS Day next logical path: “Possibly. We’ve got to keep her a bit fresh, happy and well. Her mindset is really good. She was a bit aggressive before she was retired and she’s come back a bit more chilled out. She got a little bit stirred up out the back today, but it’s been a long time since she’s been to the races.”

Winning Jockey: Michael Dee

Mare is loving her racing: “It seems that way. She trialled very well leading into this today and she has an exceptional first-up record. It was great we could keep that intact today.”

Tempo suited: “Pre-race I always knew they were going to go pretty hard in front. Obviously Midwest knows one thing and goes very quick and that allowed us to have plenty of room in the run and we were able to edge off into the one-off position and we were strong through the line.”
