On feelings coming into today’s race: “I don’t get nervous very often, unless i think they’re pretty serious, and I was toey at Ballarat and I was probably toeyer today.

“It’s just a relief. When you’ve got Frank and Christine Cook buying a yearling for this price ($180,000), and they could have given it to anyone, but they gave it to me and Denita and our staff and entrusted us so it’s just good to be able to repay them.”

On her as a horse and today’s race: “She’s a big horse - it was a fillies race and she looked like a colt in amongst them. She’s got a good cruising speed and can quicken off it.

“She’s professional, time will tell when things don’t go her way up on speed but we’ve got time to give her a break now and teach her that.

On future plans: “There’s plenty of those fillies races (in spring) that will suit her down the ground so we’ll probably give her a break now and let her grow up a bit more and have some fun in the spring.”

Winning Jockey: Harry Coffey

On the horse: “She’s pretty brilliant actually. She’s a pleasure to ride. I actually haven’t ridden many two-year-olds that are as intelligent as her. She jumps out, she gets into gear quickly and she wants to own the race herself.

“That’s going to take her a long way, especially in these early years where horses are inexperienced, even in her early three-year-old year next season, she’s just going to be dynamite being able to race the way she does.

“She’s pretty brilliant and it’s awesome to partner her.”

On today’s race: “I was a little bit concerned pre-race that that wind might blow me around a bit and even when the gates opened she noticeably jumped out and got lost for a few strides but then I got the bridle back into her mouth and gathered her she just kicked into gear.

“I didn’t really care where I sat but when she wanted to be there and she’s quite intelligent - she wanted to own the race - and she wanted to take it up on her own accord.

“She was too good and she’s a pleasure to ride.”

On being given the right: “I’ve got to send a shout out to connections sticking by me. I don’t think I’ve seen a Warrnambool Carnival where there’s this quality of riders coming to the meeting, so for me to ride a filly like her in a big race and then reward them for the faith I’m absolutely chuffed.

“It’s great for racing that these riders come out to Warrnanvbool but it makes it a bit tough for fellas like me, so I was rapt to reward the connections.”
