Winning Trainer: Chris Waller

“He’s found his winning rhythm and James knew what to do. He got going a little bit earlier than you normally would at Flemington as it took the whole length of the straight to reel in Rousseau.

“It was interesting to watch over the last 200 metres. It was good to know that we had the race in the bag and it could have gone either way.”

Nomination for Sydney Cup: “We’ll gradually creep him up in distance or there’s racing like the Mornington Cup. There’s a few good options down here (in Melbourne) as well.

Rousseau: “It was good to see him racing more consistently and hopefully another win isn’t too far away for him.”

Winning Jockey: James McDonald

“He’s going really well. He’s a really nice horse and very enthusiastic. He knows where the winning post is.

“He’s going to be a really progressive stayer going through the grades. He’ll stay further than ten furlongs and he’s as tough as old boots.”

Does he feel like he can stay two miles: “Yes, he does. I think he’ll stay very well but he’s progressive and on an upward spiral and can take some nice races.”
