Five winners: “It is one of those things that we’re getting the rub of the green and that horse just needed a run and he ended up getting it.

“To be honest, they were out two best triallers at Terang, Mia Capo and this horse, and he just needed an ounce of luck.

“It is just one of those red letter days and there are some great people in this horse. I bought him as a ‘weaner’ for about $9,000 and we left him a long time, got some owners in him. Locals and me, we’re tickled pink.

Catching up with winning owners tonight: “I said to my partner Steph that for every one (win) we get, I’ll be out an hour later. It’ll be until 5am now.

“No, we’ll probably have a quiet night with a big couple of days ahead. We’ve got to trot up all the runners for tomorrow yet so there is a bit of work to do.

“I’m so pleased with this carnival. It’s been a wonderful advertisement for our stable - flat horses and jumpers - and I’m so proud of our team.

“My staff, they’re the hard workers, they get up in the morning. This is the easy part.”

Brierley runners - came through well: “They’ve done really well after the race. They’re back home in the paddock. I’d say at this stage that Vanguard will definitely back up (in the Grand Annual) but I’m not sure about Britannicus.

“He was jumping left and threw the race away really at that double. I’m thinking we might save him for something like the Australian Steeple.”
