Gave S Pateman his first winner at the Carnival ever on a horse called World Wide Web.

Winning today: “Big thrill. Peter McLaren just asked me to take him on and he’s out at Tower Hill. We just poke along. Just battlers poking along.

“The owner said the family (bloodline) would handle the wet. He’s related to Grandview Avenue and he’s won on the wet.

<Has been coming to the carnival since he was 15 and worked for Kevin Lafferty>

Winning Jockey: Teodore Nugent

“What a trainer Kenny is. I’ve known him since I started riding trackwork here all those years ago.

“To ride for him when I was claiming four kilos and still be riding for him now, it is a big rush riding winners for these small country trainers and to reward them with a win like this.

“It is my first May Carnival and I think I’ve been riding for four years now so to get the win is surreal.

“Ken used to be a very good trainer back in the day - he still is a very good trainer now. He’s obviously wound his numbers back down in his later years.

“But to the owners, Peter McLaren, they’ve stuck by me and I’ve won a listed race for them. To keep rewarding them is so surreal.

“The crowd is good. I’ve got a lot of school mates here and they gave me a warm welcome.”
