Long time between wins: “Patient is an understatement, they’re (the owners) just awfully excited because he’s a horse that his wins are few and far between.”

Coming to this race: “It might’ve been a blessing now that he played up in the mounting yard at Swan Hill because it proved that this race lobbed on our calendar. He was very fresh and well within himself and we were quietly confident coming in today.”

Quirky horse: “He’s very quirky, he has to be ridden perfectly and he was today. He’s got a sprint of about 237m long so you have to time it perfectly. He really fought hard today, we thought he was going to run a good third and he kicked back, he’s been in work a long time, he’s in a really good zone at the moment, he really fought back and posted a good win.”

Winter Final: “It’s definitely a possibility. That was his first win that he’s posted on a soft track, soft 7, so he’s an older horse that’s adding new tricks to his bag there.”

Winning Jockey: Michael Dee

How the race unfolded: “He’s a horse that needs everything to go his way, and fortunately today we had barrier 1. More often than not that’s not the case for him, he can draw wide and have to get too far back and need a bit of luck in the straight. We were able to get everything to go our way today and he was strong through the line.”

Confidence today: “He’s obviously feeling fit and well and from his previous run here if everything went our way he’d be right there.”
