On the horse: “You come to the race on a difficult day like this and you don’t know what you’ve got. We thought we knew what we had. She had had only one trial, and I know it’s easy to say after the race, the last month has been really difficult with her. We’ve had a lot of good horse, but this is one out of the box. To see what she did, to that opposition, on a day like today on her preparation so far, it’s exciting to be a part of another good horse.”

Faster time than the boys: “The five best riders in Victoria all knocked the ride back on her, I can’t believe it. It’s racing. There’s other stables that are putting pressure on riders to ride horses. All that I will say is this girl has laid a very big foundation and the way she trialled at Pakenham, she was never, never off the bridle at any stage and the $1 million question for us was if he let her off the bridle, what would have happened. You saw today what happens when you let her go.”

World is her oyster towards the Blue Diamond: “Today was important to get through these runs. It’s two-year-old racing. It is what it is. We’re not a big up and about stable. We’ve got an excellent strike-rate with two-year-olds and this horse has shown exceptional talent and I’m very pleased she has transformed that today.”

Made trip to Moe to ride her: “Manny gave me a call last week and said he’s got a really nice two-year-old and would I go down to Moe and gallop her, so I jumped in the car on Saturday morning and galloped the horse, and she’s very nice. She’s got a lot of improvement in her and is a very professional type, so it was worth it.”

Tactics: “He just left it up to me. These two-year-old races they are an open book depending on how they jump.She jumped OK. I was always going to try and roll forward and she was able to do that and then when I felt I was going to get to the lead easily, I let her roll and she did it nicely and comfortably. She’s never been taken off the bridle, but she was today, and it was good to see her find a couple of lengths.”

When challenged: “I think she was having a little look around and when she sensed them getting closer, she felt like she was going to hold them off, so it was good for a horse having her first start.”
