Winning Trainer: Robert Hickmott (Nick Williams interviewed)

On Point Nepean as a horse: “He’s done today what he’s been doing at home, this horse, and what we did for Joseph (O’Brien) over in Ireland. You could see by him in the yard he’s still very immature, but he’s going to be the real deal this horse. He’s a proper stayer.”

“He’s still growing into his frame. He’s got as much improvement left in him as any horse we own. I think one day he’ll be a Cups horse, this horse. We like him.”

On what’s next: “We’ll just see how he pulls up. You’ve got to take it one run at a time but, as I say, he’s very immature. There are some decent horses in that race - they paid a couple of million bucks for English King, he’s no slouch - so for this horse to win the way he did (was goof).

“He’s one that we own that’s really on the up and gives us some excitement going forward.

“It’s a long way away, we need everything going right and obviously he’s won here today in restricted grade, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this time next year he was very high in the market for a Sydney Cup.”

Winning Jockey: Alana Kelly

On the effort: “That was super by him, he’s definitely come on since last start.”

On how the race unfolded: “It worked for us last time (pushing forward). He’s a pretty free-going horse, I was actually surprised they left him so much around the first corner and up the back straight and he was able to really stick it to them from the top (of the straight).”
