Margins: 2-¼ Lengths X 1-½ Lengths

Winning Trainer: Trent Busuttin/Natalie Young (Racing Manager Sam Griggs speaking)

On pre-race expectations: “We thought he would run a race first up, certainly didn’t expect him to win, but I hope the owners had a little bit on.

“He was two lengths off them in a Zipping (Classic) in the spring. We thought we’d just poke around and build him up to 2000 and he’s come out and won first up so we’ll take it.”

On improvement between campaigns: “It’s hard to comment if he’s improved because we only just got him three or four months ago, but he’s just thrived since he’s been in the stable.

“He just takes to his work nicely, he’s matured, he’s a Lucas Cranach gelding who’s a bit of a lad and gets around the stable, but it’s just fantastic to get a result for the guys.”

Winning Jockey: Damien Thornton

On pre-race expectations: “They said he’d run well, but I wasn’t really sure if he could win. He’s run better over further and maybe needed the run, but he had good enough fresh form to warrant running well.”

On the run: “I just got the perfect run from the gate. He came off the bridle a fair way out but when I got stuck into him he started to build really good and he was strong to the line.

On what he was thinking at the top of the straight: “I thought he was going to win. Once he hit the front he started to star-gaze and wanted to pull up so I had to keep going just to make sure he got the job done, which he did easy enough in the end. He’s in for a good prep obviously.”
