Winning Trainer: Gavin Bedggood

How did horse end up in your stable: “I got wind that he was coming up on the market and maybe being sold on-line and I jumped the gun and went and saw (former trainer) John (Price). They were kind enough to sell him to us and I’ve got some loyal clients that have backed me and some new clients that have jumped in on board and the rest is history.”

On last start: “He ran a great second to Excelida who backed it up with a place in a stakes race. I was confident and it was good to see him ping the gates today and put himself in a spot. I thought he would be midfield, or a bit worse, and it was a pretty easy watch, I thought.”

Mark Zahra taking the initiative: “I think so. There looked to be good tempo on paper and I thought he’d be midfield at best, but that’s why you put those jockeys on. You don’t have to tell them too much. They use their heads and take matters into their own hands.”

Where to now: “He’ll probably have a month between runs. I want to try and get him ready for that Country Mile Series with the final on All-Star Mile Day. We’ll map it out from here, but it takes a bit of pressure off my back getting a win straight off the bat and he’s picked up his purchase price straight away.”

Winning Jockey: Mark Zahra

Landing in the perfect spot: “He’s a horse that normally gets back, but he jumped so well and you don’t give away your spot if you can get there without spending any fuel. I travelled really good. I don’t think he’s been in front that far out so he did wobble about and the other guy didn’t like being in front so far out either. He worried it out of it.”

Whip to left hand: “He loomed up, Over The Sky, and I felt like I needed a head (to chase), so I switched it over and he gave me that head.”

Talent going forward: “He’s got a new trainer and a fresh start and it can help these, I know he’s only six, older horses a little bit. The way he won and where I lobbed, so why not.”
