Winning Trainer: Donna Scott

“The son-in-law, I’d get in trouble if I didn’t put him on when I come down here but he rides super and I have no qualms putting him on.

“What a super effort by this mare. Norm Loy used to train her and it was too much for him to bring her to town so he told the owners to send her my way so I’m forever grateful for that.

“Her rating is up in the 85s so there’s no races for her at home. That’s why she has to come to town and I said to the owners that she has to target the fillies and mares races. They’re usually a bit weaker than taking on the boys.

“It was a super run. We had her in at Flemington, she drew the outside that day but I said to the guys that she’s due to go around and we brought her here today.

“She looks super and I couldn’t be happier coming into it.”

Winning Jockey: Blaike McDougall

“I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed riding winners for the family since they’ve been my family.

“Donna puts in a lot of hard work behind the scenes. She’s a very hands on trainer and never gets the rewards she reaps.

“A Saturday winner, the family would be pretty chuffed by that.

“I anticipated being three of pairs, four back, one off. In an ideal world they’d run along which they didn’t. Patrick (Moloney on Witchful Thinking) rated his mount very well. Got going at the right time and this mare is very tough.

“I wouldn’t say she lacks ability but she makes up for it in toughness.

“She never really traveled like the winner and even in the straight I was waiting for something to come past her. To her credit she stuck on and deserved the win today.”
