“Col said ‘you’d better put him on a decent one’ and we came up with this horse. I said to Huey before the race, ‘this is your most important ride for the year’. I was certainly feeling the pressure.

“He rode it beautiful, he’s a class bloke and it is great to have him down here for the carnival. Great to get a winner for Col and Janice (McKenna). It is very special for them and the other owners.

“A lot of friends and family of mine and Colin. Just fantastic. They bred the horse and a great job by the team as well.

Charity day on Monday: “it was a great day on Monday. Great for the jocks to come down. It was super. The community got behind it and they raised a lot of money. I said to Huey they he’d better roll the sleeves up here and he’s got the job done.

Chasing Symon Wilde for winners total: “We’ve got a nice team in tomorrow so we’ll keep chipping away at him.”

Winning Jockey: Hugh Bowman

“It’s great to be here. I’ve had a lovely week. Would’ve been a bit of a sour taste going home without a winner but to win in Col and Janice’s colours is very special.

“To win in any colours is special but to be down here and riding with them, it means a great deal. They were very confident. Col said this their best chance of the week although I hope Jamie (Kah) is in there and ready to go because I think they’ve got high hopes with Grandslam in tomorrow’s Cup.

“It’s been a good day for the stable today. They were confident and he came through.”

Being at the carnival: “I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve enjoyed riding a little heavier than I normally would. I’ve enjoyed the festivities and lots of lovely people down here.

“It’s just a great racing community which you can tell. Country racing, whether it be Victoria or New South Wales, they put on a great show and it’s great to be here at Warrnambool.”
