Keep an eye on SA: Blackbookers – 23rd of March 2024

We’ve found two horses to follow from Morphettville on Saturday.

Keep An Eye On SA Picture: Racing & Sports

Race 7Boognish

It should come as no surprise that the horse we are most keen to keep an eye on comes through the best race on the card, the Listed Matrice Stakes. While the winner, Climbing Star, made light work of them in her return and looks destined for further success this campaign, it was the run of Boognish back in third we are following up on.

An impressive fresh winner on Adelaide Cup Day when recording a Racing and Sports rating of 91+, the plus referring to her fast finish, the four-year-old mare went on with the job on Saturday when closing strongly into third and posting a new peak rating of 98. While the W Clarken & N O'Shea partnership will be keeping an optimistic eye on next month's Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes, a race like the Group 3 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) in three weeks looks perfect for her.

Race 7Prairie Flower

Coming through the same race was the eye-catching run of Prairie Flower. The David Jolly runner posted the fastest final 200m of the day when finishing fifth with a rating of 95, a pound off her best. While I don't think she is necessarily capable of following on the same pathway as Boognish and have success at black type level, the daughter of Star Turn is an extremely consistent mare and with a more favourable run in transit, will take plenty of beating next start.
