3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on February 8.

Eight TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Friday at Albury, Canterbury, Walcha, Bendigo, Moonee Valley, Sunshine Coast, Esperance & Hobart.

Canterbury: Race 8 @ 9:45pm

SAN FRANCISCO thrives the trip and venue. Won comfortably and was just beaten the latest, both here. Needs a good ride from the tricky gate but gets Shinn first time and is the one to beat. KILMACURRAGH came back from Melbourne and wasn’t beaten far here at this grade and trip. Gets his chance on the 7-day return with Berry replacing the apprentice. WELCOME ART seeks the hat-following the big win in a country Open. Rated well in that and don’t underestimate. Will get a nice run behind the speed, but note Owen won’t use the full claim. FABRICATOR led and missed a lip here 16 days ago fighting hard. Uses the rail and gets the chance to go one better. HURRICANE HARBOUR didn’t see the trip out last start in stronger at Eagle Farm off the good effort at the mile. Better suited and expect an improved run.SELECTIONS: Have # 3 San Francisco marked shorter than the each way quote and he looks the bet.

Albury: Race 4 @ 3:20pm

Speed aplenty despite the small field. Competitive race. DUTCHESSE MOSHE is the best horse in the race. Fended off all challengers to get the cash at Moruya last time out despite the rider losing the whip. Always been a mare with good ability. Inside draw is a big plus with the large weight. Should find a nice stalking position and have last look at these late. ROCK 'N' ROLLER is airborne. First try beyond 1200m but should benefit from the strong speed. Destined for better races and must be kept safe. FASHION TIP with winning form best of the remainder. SELECTIONS: Dutchesse Moshe for the win.

Sunshine Coast: Race 3 @ 5:00pm

READY SET BOOM took control before the corner but found one better when runner up at massive odds over 1600m here last start. Has very good 1400m form and drops from Saturday to midweek class so might have a bit on these. OWN SWEET WAY has not raced since beaten a whisker over 2100m at Horsham on 16 December. Has changed stables since and could surprise as his fresh record is very good. MAGIC LAD was up on the pace all the way when runner up over 1200m here recently. Untested at this trip which is the only concern. DIXIE PREACHER usually needs a run to find form following a break but with blinkers on today might be a bit sharper. SELECTIONS: Confident win bet #7 Ready Set Boom.

Walcha: Race 8 @ 5:25pm

Heaven's High can adopt a forward position. I'LL TAKE MONEY didn't get a run at a vital stage last time out. Fresh run prior when third at Taree was good. Stower back on and third-up appears ready. Not a strong race and she brings the best credentials. Terrific bet at the each-way odds. SMOKEY EYE found a few better at Tuncurry last start. Racing well and with the booking of Greg Ryan he can play a major role. MORE THAN MAGICO best of the rest. SELECTIONS: I'll Take Money for the win.

Moonee Valley: Race 1 @ 6:30pm

TOWER ROAD has been good both starts in strong form races and will be better for the latest up to this trip. Gets the low gate, and positive stable striker Oliver for the first time, and looks ready to fire. LUNAR FLARE is a Team Hayes improver better for the run this trip. Needs a good ride but is a player. LACAZETTE impressed missing a lip on debut on the Lakeside and then got too far back and things didn’t work out after at the same venue. Well-bred and should appreciate the mile. SCHWITZER improved again at Sandown and then got caught wide at Sale. Peaks now and Lane is a key rider switch. Can settle handier and come hard. BRUTALLY HONEST has come up the early favourite and is certaily a chance. SELECTIONS: Looking to build a bank with each way play #7 Tower Road who looks to have plenty to offer 3U and beyond.

Hobart: Race 9 @ 6:50pm

MONMOUTH has been working up to a win and looks hard to beat. Runner up latest behind Thanos and meets him 1.5kg better this time. Given time between the runs and will go close. PAION is overdue with placings at four of last five. Drawn out but close to a win and this suits. THANOS was a winner over Monmouth two back then backed up in a tougher race and was well held. Back in class here and can find best again in front. ONE WAY TICKET is fitter for three runs back and is ready to show best. Drawn for a good run. FURRRENZY next best. SELECTIONS: Monmouth looks hard to beat.
