Amphitrite Popular For All-Star Mile

3 minute read

Outstanding filly Amphitrite's winning return in the TAB Vanity at Flemington has seen her firm to $7 equal second favourite for the All-Star Mile at Flemington on March 16.

Amphitrite was $15 before her Vanity win but her impressive resumption sees her now sharing the second line of betting with Land Of Plenty with Alizee the favourite.

“Amphitrite has proven herself against her own age and sex with mile victories in the Edward Manifold Stakes and Thousand Guineas last spring and her potential appearance in the All-Star Mile would create plenty of interest,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.

“Of the five gallopers currently in single figures for the All-Star Mile two of them are three-year-old fillies with Tasmania’s Mystic Journey rated an $8 chance."

Alizee, who will run in Saturday’s Futurity Stakes at Caulfield after winning the Expressway Stakes at Rosehill on February 2, is the $4.40 favourite with TAB to take out the inaugural edition of the world’s richest mile race.

Amphitrite also shortened from $8 to $5 with TAB for the Australian Guineas at Flemington on March 2 where Mystic Journey is currently the $4.60 favourite.

The other firmer of note for the All-Star Mile was Happy Clapper ($11 to $8) after his second to Winx in the Apollo Stakes at Randwick.

The Pat Webster-trained eight-year-old gelding is adept at the mile having won the 2015 Villiers Stakes, 2017 Epsom and 2018 Doncaster Mile and finishing second in three other Group 1s at 1600 metres; two of them behind Winx.

Public voting on the All-Star Mile is open until midday on February 18 with the top ten vote-getters who provisionally accept their places in the field to be revealed on February 21.
