Today’s Horse Racing Tips – February 22

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on February 22.

Eight TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Friday at Canterbury, Scone, Canberra, Benalla, Moonee Valley, Ipswich, Mount Barker & Bordertown

Canterbury: Race 7 @ 9:15pm

Tonsor and Kentucky Flyer look the pacesetters. TONSOR appears one of the better bets on the program. Worked from the draw here fresh but still kicking strongly at the end, going down narrowly. He lands in a much better spot from the draw this time around. Holds the most upside in the race and shouldn't find any excuses in the run. One to beat. DON'T LEAVE ME OUT is airborne at the minute. Dug deep to defeat Tonsor here last start. Clearly ties in and his recent WFM trial was crisp work. Ready to run boldly again. THE AUGUST is a good fresh horse. Stable debut for the Waller yard and he should be kept safe. SELECTIONS: Tonsor straight out.

Bordertown: Race 5 @ 3:05pm

GIGGLON (1) is fitter for two runs in and gets chance to break through. Has been racing in tougher company and looks hard to beat here. FAY'S JOY (4) won two on end then was fifth latest when covering ground. Rates strongly here and can bounce back. MISS MOSH (6) was a fresh up winner then came home well for a close up fourth latest. Expected to go close again. OLATUNJI (2) is in great form including a last start win and will be prominent throughout. REDEEKA (3) next best. SELECTIONS: Gigglon rates well here.

Scone: Race 4 @ 3:10pm

SUBWAY SURFER did a bit wrong in the run but stuck on gamely to finish a close 5th over 1800m at Bathurst last start. Veteran with a good record at the mile and Ryan taking the mount is a confidence booster. DAIQUIRI LASS appreciated the step up in distance last time when just half a length from the winner over this trip at Quirindi. Has been in the money at all three runs at 1600m and although drawn wide can go forward and play a major role. KRAVCHENKO has been safely held in both runs this prep over shorter distances. Looking for this trip now and will tighten right up after those two pipe-openers. MARFAZ and ST LUKE are both going well and have to be thrown in exotic bets. SELECTIONS: #4 Subway Surfer to win.

Benalla: Race 6 @ 3:55pm

NICCONI PONI (3) is overdue for a win and gets chance here. Placed at last four runs, the latest over seven furlongs in this grade. Freshened for this and will be hard to hold out. BLAZING ASH (1) on the other hand is the one to catch. Winner at two of last three, the latest with a bit in hand in this grade o er 1100m. Perfectly drawn and will take catching. FERGIE (2) has been building to a win and came home strongly to finish in the placings behind Blazing Ash. Meets the mare marginally better at weights here and should be winding up strongly again. ROSE OF CAPRI (9) has been thereabouts and looks an each way chance. TIVOLI LASS (4) can run a big race fresh. SELECTIONS: Nicconi Poni will go close.

Canberra: Race 5 @ 4:03pm

SAUSEDGE (5) was well-backed seeking a hat-trick FU in a Highway and found a couple better. She has plenty up the sleeve and should be winning for Matt Dale using the handy gate. ACTON SHALE (3) was expected to win at Albury and may have been a touch unlucky. Made a ratings spike and should go close on-speed from the sweet draw. FEARLESS GIRL (1) is much better then the form line reads. Has been racing well in stronger grade including in Melbourne and it’s hard to risk the Waterhouse-Bott yard. The six day back-up suggests she’s pleasing. FARTHING WOOD (10) comes off a forgive run but impressed winning the Maiden here prior. It’s a step up but she may have more to offer at odds. SELECTIONS: Keen on #5 Sausedge. Top yard and has upside.

Ipswich: Race 6 @ 5:00pm

Massive Whisper can kick up from the inside. LOTUS LEAF was very plain here last start. Didn't have the smoothest of passages but when your 6-4 you'd expect more ticker. Displayed good ability in her three runs prior. Tongue Tie on could be a key gear change. Worth another chance. SHOW DECK has improved her form in recent times. Not far off at the Sunshine Coast her past couple. Rock hard fit and should find a nice run stalking the speed. LUCADEAL will benefit from the race experience. This is easier and the stable are firing. SELECTIONS: Lotus Leaf straight out.

Mt Barker: Race 7 @ 7:52pm

Speed right across the barriers and they will fly along. ITS NOT TRADING (1) can stalk from the low gate and seeks the hat-trick. Has never raced better and looks set to repeat. EVERASREADY (8) missed a nose LS in the CL2 making a ratings spike. Just has to hold that to be a genuine hope. POLDARK'S GIRL (6) has had good support the last two and had excuses the latest. Needs a good ride but can feature in the placings. PRINCE FRIAR (5) may be best of the rest. SELECTIONS: # 1 Its Not Trading can keep things rolling.

Moonee Valley: Race 5 @ 8:30pm

MISS TOORAK FLYER (2) is back from a let up and back from a great run in the Country Cup on the Gold Coast on Millions day where she was a close up sixth. Claim helps and will be charging at these late while fresh. GOLDEN LUSTRE (6) on the other hand will be highballing it out front. Racing well and will take catching. CARIBBEAN PEARL (4) was a winner here this course and distance two back then came home hard to finish fifth last start behind Humma Humma, who is among the chances for the Typhoon Tracy Stakes later tonight. Must be considered here. GIRLS GOT SPIRIT (5) rates well but will need a little luck from wide out. MCGARRETT (8) next best. SELECTIONS: Miss Toorak Flyer can swamp them late.
