Today’s Horse Racing Tips – March 20

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on March 20.

Seven TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Hawkesbury, Kyneton, Sandown, Doomben, Pinjarra, Balaklava & Launceston.

Hawkesbury: Race 7 @ 4:50pm

They won't break any records here, with Carluca and Amangiri booting up from inside draws to be prominent along with Greenspan from wider out. AMANGIRI (9) was ultra-impressive last start when she scored by a good space over 1550m at the Kensington track. Took off before the turn that day before spreadeagling her rivals at just her second race start. Nicely bred filly who can go right on with the job. FUI SAN (8) has been freshened up since scoring a barnstorming win in an 1800m Highway at Randwick 32 days ago. Well in after the claim but a bit of speed up front would help. BE MINDFUL (3) is in line for a hat-trick after consecutive 1400m wins at Kembla and Newcastle. Progressing nicely and although facing a stiffer test this time is heading the right way. INVICTA (1) is also in the mix despite a big weight. SELECTIONS: #9 Amangiri looks very smart and can win again.

Balaklava: Race 2 @ 1:15pm

NIC'S SECRET (1) is long overdue for a win and gets chance. Placed at last four and will be hard to hold out here. DEXTINY (6) showed ability last campaign and finished with a good sixth in town. Definite winning chance fresh. CRIMSON TYCOON (2) makes debut for an in form stable who scored a winning double in town on Saturday. Has won a trial and bold showing expected. LORD VARYS (3) is close to breaking through and has the claim. Watch MOVANDI (11) on debut from another in form yard. SELECTIONS: Nic's Secret gets chance.

Kyneton: Race 6 @ 3:10pm

AMASTRYKER (4) has been racing well and looks hard to beat here. Placed last time after being slowly away but drawn to be camped just off the leaders here. Go close. SHUT THE FRONTGATE (5) was a winner two back as well then thereabouts latest. Each way hope here on that run. PURE (6) worked home steadily latest and will take beating. LA TESORA (7) can improve sharply. SELECTIONS: Emberspeed keeps improving and can make the hat-trick.

Doomben: Race 5 @ 4:35pm (AEDT)

VERANES (7) has returned in good order and will be peaking third up. Ran on for a strong resuming win then hit the line well again to place at this course last time. The longer trip should suit and looks hard to hold out. SEPOY ACHEVA (2) hasn't had a lot go right at her past couple since a win at Ipswich. Was held up late last time and may appreciate returning to this distance. LADY BING (1) was dominant first up then solid again when placed last time. Right in this. SELECTIONS: #7 Veranes is at her peak third up. Backing her to win from #2 and #1.

Sandown: Race 5 @ 5:30pm

SAVVY OAK (1) drifted back and kept coming fresh up after a long spell after running in the Derby. Talented galloper who looks hard to hold out here. GRINZINGER STAR (3) is another who ran in the Derby last spring and resumes here on the back of a trial and being gelded. Expect bold showing. FEATHER (7) is fitter for two solid runs in and won only start third up. Go close. PRESSURE (5) is a talented filly resuming and trip suits fresh. EXPLICITLY (2) is close to a win and has the claim. SELECTIONS Sticking with Savvy Oak.

Pinjarra: Race 7 @ 7:45pm

UTGARD LOKI (2) was an easy debut winner and then just missed here this grade as a firm favourite. Peaks now and rates to win. MURRAY THE BULLDOG (1) runs along and is busting to win. First time this venue but may have to settle for the quinella again. LAYLO (11) has to come back to the mile and that should suit. The Narrogin Maiden win two-back was good. OUR GIRL MARLI (10) won the Maiden easily at Albany and expect that to stack right up. SELECTIONS: #2 Utgard Loki has upside and appeals.

Launceston: Race 7 @ 9:30pm

Apriano, Life On The Wire and Liffeybeau all capable of working forward. LIFE ON THE WIRE (2) has been excellent in both runs this prep. Won the Bow Mistress first up then was narrowly beaten as favourite in the Vamos Stakes. Doesn't know how to run a bad race. Hard to beat. FRAGMENT (5) showed good improvement on his first up outing at Devonport when closing well late here three weeks ago. BLAZE FORTH (1) is also ultra consistent. Should get a cosy run from an inside draw. GEE GEE LANETT (8) is the weight horse in the race. Meets Life On The Wire 3.5kg better under handicap conditions from their latest clashes in the Bow Mistress and Vamos Stakes. SELECTIONS: Can't go past #2 Life On The Wire.
