Today’s Horse Racing Tips – April 25

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian TAB meetings on April 25.

Major Australian thoroughbred meetings on Saturday are conducted at Randwick, Flemington, Beaudesert, Ascot and Gawler.

Randwick: Race 8 @ 4:55pm

No surprise to see a fast tempo in the last with a capacity field engaged over the 1000m scamper. OMAR (10) returned in good order at Hawkesbury last start when simply too good over 1000m. Was marked up to his peak there and ran good figures in the process. Like the fact he has been kept fresh (28 days) and he is clearly trending the right way. Hard to beat. SOUTHERN LAD (4) will likely be better over further, but appears more than capable of sprinting well fresh with the speed on up front. CRAFTY TYCOON (6) continues to race well and has to be respected with JMac back aboard, while TRAUMATISED (12) can also measure up. SELECTIONS: Very keen on #10 Omar.

Flemington: Race 7 @ 4:35pm

Call Me Handsome and Al Passem contest the lead. MANTASTIC (3) looks ideally placed here. He was a good winner in Adelaide before powering home to just miss at Bendigo. Great looking piece of form for this and the track and trip are both big ticks for him. CALL ME HANDSOME (1) is struggling to break through but will put himself in the right spot again and is going well enough to be a leading hope once again. The O'Brien pair, LYCURGUS (7) and SECOND BULLET (4), are both going to be better over a bit more ground but the stable are flying and both have competitive ratings. ZATACLA (9) is in the mix with the Tassie horses flying on the mainland of late. SELECTIONS: Mantastic is placed to win.

Beaudesert: Race 6 @ 3.17pm

SEND US A SIGN (1) was brave last start when she raced wide but fought hard to win at Lismore. Has a 50 per cent strike rate at this course and is very consistent at this distance. Big chance to go back to back. ROUND MOUNTAIN GEM (2) showed good improvement when a half-length second at Ipswich last start. At peak fitness fourth up and races well here. CLOSE ENOUGH (4) resumes after finishing her last campaign by winning two of her last three starts. Drawn to advantage. MISS DEFIANCE (5) was consistent before the spell. Can go well fresh. SELECTIONS: Backing #1 Send Us A Sign to win again from #2 and #4.

Gawler: Race 4 @ 3:00pm (AEST)

Hard to go past DOCTOR DOOLITTLE (2) who returned with a nice run. Found the line well in tougher class when resuming and further improved. This is easier and expected to go close. RUSHWA (4) is a last start winner worth including again. Should be winding up strongly. CRYSTAL MOMENT (9) goes best here at home and looks well placed with the claim. KING'S SPIRIT (1) turned in a strong return at huge odds fresh and actually goes much better second up. Fitter and worth including in the multiples. SOCIAL MEDIA (7) will give a sight but has to overcome the tricky draw. SELECTIONS: Keen on Doctor Doolittle.

Gosford Race 2 @ 1:39pm

Not clear-cut the lead and Joyous Times may oblige. BANTEUX (3) hit the line well third-up at the mile and this is a nice progression. Draws to advantage and the Waller galloper is the one to beat. JOYOUS TIMES (5) has placed the last two with the latest this trip at Newcastle. Keeps improving and can be right in the finish. ALAM MO NA (6) is back a bit in trip but is racing well enough to make the finish. GALINA (8) can fill a minor spot. SELECTIONS: This looks the right race for #3 Banteux.

Bathurst: Race 4 @ 2.40pm

Silly Sally has very good gate speed. PRESS BOX (11) is having her first start for the Dean Mirfin stable (Ex Waller). Far from disgraced in town of late. Three lengths off group placed Mizzy most recently at Canterbury. Gets blinkers first time and is back on top of the ground for this. Should be too classy. SILLY SALLY (9) is a threat. Brilliant into stride and that'll give her every chance here. Got above herself first-up at Hawkesbury but was much better at this track last start. Learning as she goes and the inside alley is vital. Will take some catching. ABRADED (1) gets in well with the claim. First start today for the Stanley team and he could show up without surprising. LOVE MY CASHEWS (7) has trialled well for her debut. This is a country race with a bit of depth however. Respect market moves. SELECTIONS: Keen on Press Box. Think the current quote of $2.70 is generous.
