Newcastle Cup: Race 7 @ 4.40pm

Hush Writer and Vaucluse Bay will run them along at a solid tempo. Not a bad Newcastle Cup. OUR CANDIDATE (16) is an emerging stayer from the Kris Lees stable who has the ability to progress from Benchmark company to take this out. Has won at his last two runs, both over 2400m in town, with consummate ease. Tougher test today but drops 4.5kgs. His ratings are skyrocketing at each outing - he is good enough to take this next step. OUR CENTURY (2) settled back in the field and didn't fire a shot in the Wyong Cup over 2100m when resuming last time out. Goes well second up and the extra furlong on a big track is a far more appealing scenario. Expect big improvement. HUSH WRITER (8) was in the firing line all the way in a brutally run Wyong Cup but battled on bravely to hold 2nd. Big lightweight chance. EXOTERIC (9) is a chance at big odds if the track stays soft. SELECTION: Stick with the rising staying star #16 Our Candidate.

Kyneton: Race 7 @ 3:30pm

Hadeer gets the opportunity to lead. HADEER (3) won easily third-up on the synthetic after two near-misses and has equivalent grass form  He will run along and should prove hard to beat. ANGELUCCI (1) is up to this at best and its been a while since he's raced in this easier grade. He's won third-up and will use the low gate. He can make quick improvement up to this more suitable trip. CLAP CHAP (4) presents off the Maiden win and it was deserved. He can keep improving. COLORADO STATE (8) comes back in trip, but the Maiden win two back would have him around the mark at odds. SELECTION: A tough program. Like the top two selections #3 and # 1 and we can back both.

Ipswich: Race 6 @ 4:10pm

Zollikon Miss is a speedy conveyance. ZILITOR (2) ran her usual honest race at Ipswich on resumption. This is her level. Form across the board suggests she should be highly competitive. Jim Byrne has his work cut out from the deep alley but her second-up form is phenomenal. Just banking on an ounce of luck early. THUMBS UP (9) has been good without threatening in both runs back. Unwanted in the betting but hasn't been beaten far. Getting fitter. No recent wins is the knock but must be respected. ZOLLIKON MISS (1) caught the eye with back to back wins here earlier in the year. Two runs following that were rather ordinary it must be said. Left untouched in a recent trial. Talented on her day and must be kept safe. Pokes up from the inside alley is guaranteed to give a sight. LIGREB (10) next in line. SELECTION: #2 Zilitor. Backing to win.

Canberra: Race 8 @ 4:25pm

Acton Shale, Revitup Rednut and Boys Day Out may run the 'Federal' field along. SAUSEDGE (10) resumed off Stakes grade at Warwick Farm and didn't do a bad job after a slow off. She is sharp second-up and is a course and distance winner. She wins this at best and can find it with a good ride from Lever from the tricky gate. ACTON SHALE (9) impressed winning the Maiden easily first up on the synthetic and then was just alright the same track after as favourite. He's placed 2/2 at the 1200m and is an on-pacer ready for the step-up. REVITUP REDNUT (14) has just missed the last three and he didn't have the best of it the latest at Randwick. She draws to advantage and looks suited. POLYXENA (8) has won and just missed the last two and Cahill replaces the 4kg apprentice from those. He will push forward and also rates a hope. SELECTION: A nice target for Matt Dale's #10 Sausedge.
