Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at TAB meetings for October 1.
Grafton: Race 6 @ 4.00pm
There is sure to be plenty of pace on with the big field lining up. BIG BROOK (1) caught the eye on debut last start when he warmed to the task late to get up for a close 3rd over 1200m on the Sunshine Coast. Drawn well and is going to relish the extra trip today. SWEET KIARA (8) recorded her fourth minor placing in 12 starts when a game 2nd over 1315m at Coffs Harbour last start after enjoying the box-seat in transit. New to this trip but at the weights from a nice gate is sure to play a major role again. DOMINICA ROSE (9) returns from an 11-week break in a new stable. Placed first up last prep at Wyong over 1600m which is pretty good form for a race of this calibre. PLAY SCHOOL (11) ran on well first up and will appreciate getting over more ground today. SELECTION: Expecting #1 Big Brook to win.

Townsville: Race 3 @ 3:05pm
Micawber can lead from Writtinko and Double Denman. GENERAL SHORT (1) can win this at best and will be better for the three runs back. Expect the former Victorian to find his form today. CHEZBLACK (6) is a former SA galloper who has found form winning and placing here the last two hitting the line well. Finds easier grade and will be coming hard again. MICAWBER (5) is ex Godolphin and won the Maiden well first-up for the new yard. He's an improver with more to offer. DOUBLE DENMAN (9) resumes and will use the rail. He's a genuine hope at best and watch the market closely. SELECTION: This is a very tricky race card. #1 General Short has the best career figures and third-up gets the nod.
Swan Hill: Race 7 @ 4:15pm
Yulong Knight, Brimm and Unique Goldy can run them along. BRIMM (6) is a former Kiwi who's back after 199 days for the new yard. She's won 2/2 first-up and comes off a Group 3. Gets John Allen and that suggests the on-pacer is ready to go. YULONG KNIGHT (1) won the 70 well resuming and may have had some excuses after when she folded from the pace. Runs along and a bounce is on the cards. HONORABLE MENTION (2) resumes and has won 2/3 fresh. Brings two trial hit outs and keep very safe. MIHANY (5) finds a bit easier third-up and should be around the mark pushing forward. SELECTION: #6 Brimm can win if there's good support nearer post time.
