Brisbane Best: Gold Coast – 8th May 2021

3 minute read

Exciting youngster Ranch Hand looks well placed to make a winning return when he lines up in the Ken Russell Memorial at Gold Coast on Saturday.

Chris Waller's two-year-old showed good ability at the maiden campaign including a dominant win on debut at Warwick Farm and he was last seen when fifth in the Magic Millions Classic here in January.

Ranch Hand gave the impression through that preparation that he would be better with maturity so it's fair to think he will have come on since.

James McDonald takes the ride having last ridden him in his debut win and he should be able to give him the run of the race from gate three.

Victorian stayer Lord Belvedere is a third up specialist so should be ready to peak earlier in the program.

The Maher-Eustace gelding hasn't placed in two runs since a spell but it was a similar start to his last campaign before he put three wins together at Flemington.

That was the fourth time in six preparations that he has won third up so expect him to be ready to peak on Saturday.
