It’s a mammoth card of 10 quality races at Eagle Farm on Saturday and we’ve gone to a couple of the day’s features for our best bets.
The Kingsford Smith Cup sees ever-consistent sprinter Paulele get his chance to put a G1 on the resume after missing by just a nose at that level in the Doomben 10,000 last start.
That was his third successive placing and second at the elite level after chasing Nature Strip for third in TJ Smith during the Sydney carnival.
McDonald has yet to miss a place on Paulele and should be able to find him the right spot in running while some of his main rivals look to settle back in the pack.
He can handle both wet and dry tracks and is reliable so can land a big one.
The preparation of Dark Destroyer looks timed to perfection as he peaks for the Queensland Derby.
The Kiwi has improved with each Brisbane start this time in, running on well for second in the Queensland Guineas then relishing a rise in trip when proving too strong in the Rough Habit Plate here last start.
He hit the front a long way out there but fought hard for it and that effort suggests he can see the 2400m right out as he reaches peak fitness fourth up.
