Best From The West: Belmont – 11th June 2022

The fourth of the Winter WFA series is the Hyperion Stakes and it features at Belmont on Saturday on what appears likely a damp day.

It is hard to make a big play here albeit God Has Chosen looked so good charging home last outing and maybe meets an inferior group. Depends how you want to play a $1.85 shot.

Given the conditions we'll look for some value and in Race 5, Alkaline is now race fit and racing well.

A winner two back at York, he didn't have much luck and worked into third over this very trip.

With a good record on affected ground and from the inside alley, you'd expect he could sit a bit closer this time and give us a sight with an experienced rider back on.

The other value runner sees us head to the last where Savanik will go second up.

This 4yo mare by Savabeel ran out of her skin first up, sitting on the speed and boxing on two weeks back.

It was clearly not with expectation that she would run that well but that can only be a positive now up in trip.

On a day where there is expected to be rain, she is unbeaten on soft going and from a good gate won't have to work to be right with them.

We're getting near double figures each way to find out.
